Why Do You ♥ To Quilt?

Monday, March 22, 2010

I've been thinking about that question...

The textures, the colors, the softness...

Never-ending creative possibilities.

A HUGE sense of accomplishment.

Cuddling up in a beautifully worn quilt with someone you love
~ what could be more cozy and romantic?

This thing {that I made!!!} is lasting.

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO QUILT?

18 comments:

  1. Every night, I snuggle under a quilt that my great-grandmothers made together. I think about the stories they must've told while they worked and the people before me that have been warmed by the quilt.

I quilt because one day, I want someone to pull my quilts to their nose and think, "My grandmother made this." I want them to love my quilts, regardless of my color or pattern choices, because I made them to be used and loved and enjoyed.

  2. I've always loved sewing. Quilting is just another dimension of that. I love the creativity involved, picking colors and fabrics, arranging them and then seeing that intangible vision take on physical shape. It is SO rewarding, a wonderful outlet and it really feels good to finish something that lasts!

Oh, I just noticed that your patterns are in my favorite LQS -- Corn Wagon. I'm going to look for them next time I'm there! So neat!

  3. I just blogged about this on my blog a few days ago! I quilt for many reasons the top of reasons is it Relaxes me. When I am stressed I quilt. I have several on going projects for this purpose. I will sew squares together in chains and just keep going sometimes finishing a whole top in a day.

  4. Hi Amber, why do I love to quilt...let me count the ways :) I first started with a sewing class, learning the fundamentals and then I got right into quilting by joining a guild and taking every single class I could take and I bought every single notion I could afford (at the time) and LOVED it. I was newly married and I thought (at 23) that my new Husband and I would be best buddy's he would entertain me...hmm the entertain part didn't come lol so I got a hobby. I always wanted to sew and never in a million years did I think I would be a quilter - or addicted to quilting. but like some of the commenters before, I LOVE this, it's therapeutic, relaxing, purposeful and so much more. Great questions Amber.

  5. First off I love the new blog look!!! I love to quilt because I am a beginner and I am learning new things all the time. I Looove to put fabrics together and then see the results after the quilt is finished. Before I started quilting I would look at a blanket and think oh that looks comfortable or warm or matches now I look at quilts, blankets, bags etc. and see what kinds of different textiles and fabrics are used.

  6. I love the creative process, seeing something come together, and then I love the warmth of curling up, or seeing someone else curled up, in something I made.

  7. I love everything about it - the fabrics, the colors, the designs and the knowledge that we are all following our ancestors footsteps.

  8. I like playing in colors and fabrics, shapes and designs. The sense of accomplishment when I (finally) finish something. Sharing the joy! The camaraderie with other quilters! The diversity of the craft. :)

And, guess what was in my PO box today?! Yay! Thank you so very much; it's even more beautiful in person! It'll be on my blog tomorrow morning! Thank you for the pattern, too -- very cute! :)

  9. My grandmother was a quilter and that is why I always had the desire to learn to quilt.

Now that I am making my own (and still learning!) I love to watch the small pieces come together to make the large lovely design...
I am never sure how it will look until its all done and seeing it all together... that is my favorite part!

  10. I love puzzles. It's really fun for me to figure out exactly how much fabric I'll need to make the quilt dream come true. I also love that with every project you can improve your technique and learn new things. And you really can't say enough about the huge sense of accomplishment you get from putting that last stitch on the binding when it's all done. It's so great to dedicate so much time to something and be able to step back and say "I made that."

  11. I feel connected to my grandmother who died when I was 8 when I quilt. I also quilt because it makes me happy. Starting a new project is exciting, the process relaxes and entertains me, and I love giving things away to the people I love. I also feel a huge sense of accomplishment when I finish a project. I can't think of better reasons!

  12. Hum... I'd say the fabrics reeled me into quilting. I'm so in love with fabric! I also enjoy the process of making a quilt. Seeing a pattern, changing it up here and there and making it my own. I also love the idea that my quilts will be handed down and enjoyed for years to come.

Thanks for including me in the family quilt block exchange three or so years ago. I'm not sure I would of found the quilting world without you. And that would be a sad thought.

  14. I quilt because I feel the need to quilt, it is part of me. I guess the quilting fever got past down through my dad & grandfather (they didn't quilt, but were creative in their own way) from my Great Grandmother. I am blessed to have many of her quilts. I love to piece new tops together. I harldy ever follow a pattern. Quilting doesn't have many rules and i like that.

  15. Love your new banner at top. Your quilts look beautiful. I quilt because I love to sew and it is so satisfying to buy beautiful fabric, cut it up and sew it back together again. I love the touch of fabric and am amazed how different fabrics even all cotton ones feel. I love each process except the prewashing (which I confess, I do not always do) Love pressing, cutting, sewing and when I hand quilt, I am the happiest. If I know who the quilt is going to or even if I don't, I pray for that person as I am quilting. I love that I can take my quilts with me to quilt and and don't have to sit in my sewing room. Okay....you asked.

  16. I love to quilt because....love fabric, love to watch movies while I quilt, love to create, love to say that I made it, love to snuggle under them, love to make them for loved ones. I don't know what I would do without it.

  17. I love to quilt because it feeds my creativity. The shapes, textures of the fabric combined with the stitching make it a very rewarding journey.

  18. Hi Amber. I quilt because I need to create. And it is my talent. Something I do well. And I'm confident in my abilities so that confidence carries over to other areas of my life. It is an avenue where I see I can still grow as a person. And it really isn't connected to other people or other things. It is something inside me. Lovely thoughtful question. Love your answer.
